Welcome to another Family Friday. Today’s family Friday I
thought I’d share a little bit about our family’s main hobby: LRP.
Littlest Princess and I at LRP |
LRP or LARP stands for Live Action Role Play, and is quite
possibly the dorkiest hobby in the history of hobbies – but it’s something I
grew up doing, it’s something I met both my partners doing, and it’s something
a large proportion of our friends also do.

What is it you ask? Well, remember when you were a kid and you played dress up, and while you dressed up you pretended to be a knight or a princess or a superhero – it’s that, just it’s not only for kids. Each game is different, and there are different styles of LRP, from high fantasy (elves and magic, which is what we do) to futuristic, from family friendly to horror – there’s something for everyone.
Me, working a LRP event, many years ago. |
We go to a few different systems, but usually high fantasy,
with combat (that’s fighting each other with foam swords and shields) and magic
of varying types. To be totally honest, the best part about LRP for me is
making the costumes – I love designing a costume for a new character and I love
getting to wear princess dresses (of course I do!)
Because where else would you get to wear a princess dress? |
